Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, born April 26, 1991, and professionally referred to as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the first female artist to be signed by J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. She released her first EP with the label on October 21 of 2016, entitled Pho, and she started to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album, came out on in May 7th, 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music onto the internet in 2012, as she released her debut mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography in 2013. Ari Lennox continued to upload her music online in 2014, including the independently-released single Bound. In the year 2015, she was featured in Omen's Elephant Eyes Album with the track "Sweat it out" 21st July. J. Cole, who was a part of the Dreamville crew at the time, wanted to have her do some Rihanna references. The news was released on December 8th, that she'd signed with Dreamville Records. She made an appearance on the collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers II which featured the track Backseat alongside Cozz. In the month of October, she released her first EP Pho. Ari Lennox appeared in J. Cole's Change song. She also performed at the opening of The 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. She also appeared as a guest performer on two tracks with EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song as well as Bas' Icarus. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on 16 July 2018. The music video later released in September. She dropped her follow-up single Grampa on the 9th November. In November 13, she released two more singles called One and Pedigree. One or Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby was released on her debut single, February 26, 2019 for the album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby made an appearance alongside Cole on her Creed II sound track on November 16. The music video debuted on the 20th February of 2019 to go along with the track. Within the first week, it was viewed more than 3,000,000 times. She was the support act for 6LACK on their From East Atlanta With Love Tour during December 2018.
